KEYNOTE (AI DevWorld): Stack Overflow -- Why Building Trust in AI Is Key to Healthy Knowledge Ecosystem
Wednesday February 12, 2025 9:30am - 9:55am PST
Prashanth Chandrasekar, Stack Overflow, CEO

The internet and its business models are changing. For the last 16 years, Stack Overflow has been at the forefront, helping to shape the future of the web. In this time of disruption comes a necessary time to reflect, change, and break the norms of ‘this is how it's always been done.’ With the expansion of generative AI, many LLM providers are not allowing the world to operate as it has previously. Instead, a new paradigm has emerged: content created by thousands of creators across the Open Web is now being used to train models without respect or attribution for the original creator.

Consequently, in the current transformation, human-centered sources of knowledge are obscured. We face a world in which the old paradigms are no longer paramount, and their places in the world are redefined. Companies and organizations lucky enough to host these engines of knowledge production are at a decision point; how do they continue to monetize when the technological landscapes have changed? A change in strategy will allow these companies, AI tools, and the communities and data sets that power them to thrive.

CEO Prashanth Chandrasekar shares why in the GenAI era, trust in data is key to driving innovation, improving the developer experience, and building thriving knowledge communities.

OPEN Session: Using AI to Solve Real Problems for Development Teams
Wednesday February 12, 2025 10:00am - 10:25am PST
Dennis Pilarinos, Unblocked, Founder & CEO

For all the claims about AI increasing developer productivity, why aren't developers seeing more of an impact?

What we’ve heard from thousands of developers is that writing code is not their main challenge. They’re stuck at Step #1 – trying to find the right context about how the codebase works and why.

Codebases are a compilation of thousands of decisions, discussions, and documents that live across tools like Confluence, Slack, Notion, Jira, Linear, GitHub, and more - accumulated over years if not decades. Whether a developer is onboarding to your team or trying to understand how a piece of legacy code works, they waste hours every day digging for the answers through all these systems.

Unblocked augments your code with context from the tools in your stack, giving your development team a platform for asking questions, and for discovering historical context about their code.

The impact here is profound: with Unblocked, developers can answer their own questions without interrupting their peers or having to wait for meetings. What’s more, they can find the entirety of the information they need wherever they're working.

If we want to see actual productivity benefits from AI, we need to use it where we spend the most time. The more we can empower developers with the context they need, the faster we can achieve our goals and the happier we can make our teams.

Nabil Bukhari, Extreme Networks, Chief Product & Technology Officer, EVP, GM Subscription Business

In the race to adopt AI, even experienced business leaders can find themselves focusing too much on the technology itself, leading to less-than-optimal results. AI isn’t just about algorithms, machine learning, and large language models - it’s about the meaningful impact it can deliver when applied strategically. Nabil Bukhari, CTO and GM of subscriptions at Extreme Networks, the world’s fastest growing cloud networking company, offers a fresh perspective on AI strategy—one that prioritizes real outcomes over flashy applications.

In this session, Nabil will present the ARC Framework, a proven approach that guides organizations (A)ccelerating existing processes, (R)eplacing outdated systems, and (C)reating valuable new experiences, all to ensure AI investments drive measurable business impact.

This framework took shape during the development of Extreme Platform One, one of Extreme’s most ambitious projects to date. In a world where 80% of AI projects fail, Extreme Platform One stands out for simplifying complex network management and delivering tangible value to organizations of all sizes. The ARC Framework highlights that AI itself is not the innovation - it’s how we apply it strategically to create meaningful outcomes. Learn actionable strategies to avoid common pitfalls, like chasing hype or low-impact use cases, and harness AI’s true potential to drive transformation in your business.

This is a must-attend for anyone looking to integrate AI in a way that optimizes AI investments, complements their organization’s culture, solves actual business challenges, and positions them for lasting impact. Join us to explore how you can lead AI-driven change with purpose and impact.

KEYNOTE: DigitalOcean -- AI Democratization: Enabling Developers of All Sizes
Wednesday February 12, 2025 1:00pm - 1:25pm PST
Bratin Saha, DigitalOcean, Chief Product and Technology Officer

Artificial intelligence (AI) seems to be taking all industries by storm. Still, the sad reality is that so far, these changes are afforded to and created by large players who have the resources to develop AI technology. But if we are to unlock the full potential and promise of this technology, the future of AI development needs to be shaped by developers in companies of all sizes, even if they are resource-constrained. This session will explore how democratizing AI tools, platforms, and knowledge can accelerate innovation, bridge skill gaps, and empower the next generation of AI technology creators.

Technology tends to follow the path of democratization. From an infrastructure layer to a platform layer to finally the application layer, making the technology accessible to everyday users should be the natural progression. AI will soon move from the foundational models developed by companies like Anthropic and Open AI to applications that allow users to interact with unique and useful AI tools in their daily lives. This will be made possible by lowering barriers to entry through open-source frameworks, user-friendly APIs, and collaborative ecosystems so AI can become a tool for everyone, not just a privileged few.

Attendees will leave this talk with practical insights on how companies can ensure the efficient and equitable development of AI through the steps needed to enable developers with AI infrastructure, simplify AI platforms and empower developers with AI-driven applications.

PRO Session: Building an Advanced Software Engineering Agent
Wednesday February 12, 2025 1:00pm - 1:25pm PST
YK Sugi, Sourcegraph, Senior AI Developer Advocate

This presentation details the development of an experimental software engineering agent designed to answer complex questions about codebases. The core innovation lies in a graph-based approach where the agent iteratively gathers contextual information, using self-reflection to assess its confidence in answering the query. By treating accumulated context as a set and employing a greedy best-first search guided by confidence scores, the system aims to efficiently navigate the codebase and provide accurate answers. Initial findings are promising, with future benchmarks on real-world software engineering challenges planned to further validate its capabilities.

Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are two of the most important developments in tech of the last 10 years. While AI has grabbed the majority of headlines lately, APIs are the unsung heroes, the “connective tissue” that ensures seamless integration across our digital lives. But how will the more recent emergence of AI affect API security, and how do APIs affect the security of AI?
In this talk, we’ll explore these two hot topics that make our online worlds work. AI can be helpful to API security by allowing security teams to automate certain processes or make testing more efficient, but it can also be used to help malicious actors automate their attacks.

Wednesday February 12, 2025 2:00pm - 2:25pm PST
Manish Rai, Snaplogic, VP of Product Marketing

The rise of AI agents shows no sign of slowing down, with the market projected* to grow tenfold from $5 billion in 2024 to nearly $50 billion by 2030. By this time, generative AI will be table stakes, and business and IT leaders will instead be grappling with how to manage an entire workforce of AI agents carrying out a range of automated tasks.

In an AI-powered future, enterprises are like gardens with AI agents as gardeners, helping the landscapers maintain the estate. These agents are smart, self sufficient tools, and excel at specific tasks, but if the tool shed is disorganized they will be slowed down — or worse, use the wrong soil or seeds and cause irreparable damage, preventing the garden from blooming to its full potential. To avoid this, organizations must keep their tools in order.

In this session, Manish Rai will explore a range of considerations for enterprises as they implement and scale a team of AI agents to set themselves up for long-term success. It will encompass topics such as function management, and how to govern the tools AI agents will have access to — while maintaining guardrails. As use cases for AI agents expand to non-technical teams, Rai will also discuss key stakeholders for overseeing implementation to prevent shadow data. Finally, he will provide tips for organizations seeking to rework their overall data governance framework to meet the moment head on, and be prepared for a new agentic workforce.

OPEN Session: Developing the Most Efficient LLM Inferencing
Thursday February 13, 2025 10:00am - 10:25am PST
Moshe Twitto, Pliops, Founder & CTO

Organizations are increasingly concerned about the lack of power budgets in data centers, particularly as AI infrastructure and emerging AI applications lead to higher energy footprints and strain cooling systems. As they scale their AI operations and add GPU compute tiers, the escalating power and cooling demands, coupled with significant capital investments in GPUs, are eroding margins. A monumental challenge looms as data centers struggle to secure essential power, creating significant pressure for companies striving to expand their AI capabilities.

In today's LLM inferencing computing, GPU prefill operations are heavily compute-bound and critically determine the batch size. While prefill can fully utilize GPU resources, increasing the batch size beyond a certain point only increases the Time to First Token (TTFT) without improving prefill rate. On the other hand, GPU decode operations are HBM bandwidth-bound and mainly influenced by model and KV cache sizes, benefiting significantly from larger batch sizes through higher HBM bandwidth efficiency. Pliops' solution improves prefill time, allowing for larger batch sizes without violating user SLA for prefill operations. This enhancement directly affects decode performance as well, as it gains greatly from the increased batch size. As a result, by improving prefill time, the system achieves nearly proportional improvements in end-to-end throughput.

PRO Session: Striking the Balance: Leveraging Human Intelligence with LLMs for Cost-Effective Annotations
Thursday February 13, 2025 10:00am - 10:25am PST
Shambhavi Srivastava, Appen, AI Solutions Architect

Data annotation involves assigning relevant information to raw data to enhance machine learning (ML) model performance. While this process is crucial, it can be time-consuming and expensive. The emergence of Large Language Models (LLMs) offers a unique opportunity to automate data annotation. However, the complexity of data annotation, stemming from unclear task instructions and subjective human judgment on equivocal data points, presents challenges that are not immediately apparent.

In this session, Chris Stephens, Field CTO and Head of AI Solutions at Appen will provide a overview of an experiment that the company recently conducted to test the tradeoff between quality and cost of training ML models via LLMs vs human input. Their goal was to differentiate between utterances that could be confidently annotated by LLMs, and those that required human intervention. This differentiation was crucial to ensure a diverse range of opinions or to prevent incorrect responses from overly general models. Chris will walk audience members through the dataset used as well as methodology for the experiment, as well as the company’s research findings.

OPEN Session: Reducing Developer Toil: Agentic AI-driven Testing
Thursday February 13, 2025 10:30am - 10:55am PST
Animesh Mishra, Diffblue, Senior Solutions Engineer

Developer toil is real — days, even weeks, are spent conducting manual, repetitive, time-gobbling tasks like unit testing. And while GenAI coding assistants can support developers, they repeatedly fall short in performing complex TestQA tasks without human oversight.

The problem is compounded by the shortage of experienced testers, leaving developers drowning in QA testing rather than writing and innovating application code. Reports show 75% of developers’ time is spent on tasks other than code generation, resulting in 57% of developers admitting to skipping unit tests entirely.

For companies to succeed, code must be fool proof. So how can developers ensure testing is comprehensive and done with due diligence — and at scale?

The answer lies in reinforcement learning-based autonomous AI, which can eliminate up to 95% of the time developers typically spend on test writing. In this session, you will learn how to eliminate developer toil by automating manual and tedious test operations at scale (both locally and in CI), how the right tools can autonomously write and maintain unit tests for entire Java code bases, and how to ensure your unit tests for complex code are comprehensive.

This talk is designed for dev leaders looking to push the boundaries of what’s possible in Test/QA with emerging AI technology.

KEYNOTE (AI DevWorld): SambaNova Systems -- Composition of Experts: A Modular Approach to Scaling AI Models
Thursday February 13, 2025 2:30pm - 2:55pm PST
Anton McGonnell, SambaNova Systems, VP of Product

This session, led by Anton McGonnell, Head of Software Products at SambaNova Systems, presents an in-depth exploration of the Composition of Experts approach in AI - a model made up of many models that work in conjunction with each other - and in particular the benefits to individual developers. Instead of building one monolithic model, this strategy composes workflows using many specialised, independent "expert" models. This proves to be more efficient, modular, and extensible.

The talk will provide a deep dive into the advantages of this technique, which promotes reusability, saves on alignment tax, and enables granular access control. By detailing real-world implementations, attendees will learn best practices for breaking down problems, assigning appropriate experts, and orchestrating data flow between them. McGonnell will discuss how an architecture with a large memory capacity, enables this approach by hosting and serving thousands of models in parallel on a single node without performance degradation. This makes the Composition of Experts approach highly scalable and reduces the total cost of ownership for inference.

Additionally, the session will offer crucial hardware considerations for executing Composition of Experts at scale. It will examine how specialised architectures can allow hosting thousands of models in parallel on a single node. With companies increasingly relying on AI, reliability and cost-efficiency are paramount concerns. Composition of Experts tackles these challenges through modularity and inference optimisation. By attending, developers and engineers can expect to gain highly applicable skills for improving the scalability, performance, and governance of AI in production environments.

PRO Session: Embeddings: Core Concepts for Developers
Thursday February 13, 2025 3:00pm - 3:25pm PST
Jocelyn Matthews, Pinecone, DevRel, Head of Community

If you had a collection of every kind of animal on earth, from mules to narwhals to goldfish, how would we pick out just the animals that are housepets? And how does AI distinguish between a pack mule and a Moscow Mule?

Embeddings are numerical representations that capture the essential features and relationships of discrete objects, like words or images, in a continuous vector space, enabling tasks such as semantic search, clustering, and recommendations.

This is a dense but entertaining talk about the core concepts of embeddings, ranging from multidimensional vector space to the ever-familiar box of crayons we used as kids. The presentation will cover fundamental concepts, including how embeddings represent various data types, the importance of context sensitivity, and between dimensionality.

The talk introduces specialized terms and breaks them down into simple, everyday examples to help learners relate difficult concepts to familiar things. Then, we build back up to the specialized terms to deepen understanding.

Attendees will gain a clear understanding of how embeddings work, their benefits, and why they are leveraged in machine learning tasks

[Virtual Exclusive] PRO WORKSHOP (AI DevWorld): Running Billion-Scale Similarity Search at LLM Production Systems
Tuesday February 18, 2025 2:00pm - 2:50pm PST
Ohad Levi, Hyperspace, Founder and CEO

Search databases are integral to information retrieval and facilitation of similarity-based content discovery, playing a pivotal role in generative AI tech stack. Within this framework, the synergy of lexical and vector search algorithms enables the combination of structured and unstructured data, optimizing the precision, diversity and efficiency of LLM and RAG systems.

As a result, the demand for powerful search infrastructure is higher than ever: organization data is growing exponentially, while millions to billions of documents are becoming standard and the search queries become more resource-intensive, presenting significant performance, scalability and cost challenges at production-grade systems.

In this session we will explore various techniques to address those challenges, from space reduction to approximation methods as well as a range of acceleration technologies, which are highly parallelizable and designed for large scale real-time production systems. Transitioning from lab to production is not always seamless and contributing to the failure of numerous AI projects, the session target is to provide insights and solutions directly impacting the efficiency and success of future Gen AI applications.

[Virtual] KEYNOTE (AI DevWorld): Stack Overflow -- Why Building Trust in AI Is Key to Healthy Knowledge Ecosystem
Wednesday February 19, 2025 9:30am - 9:55am PST

[Virtual] OPEN Session: Using AI to Solve Real Problems for Development Teams
Wednesday February 19, 2025 10:00am - 10:25am PST

[Virtual] PRO Session: Building an Advanced Software Engineering Agent
Wednesday February 19, 2025 1:00pm - 1:25pm PST

[Virtual] KEYNOTE (AI DevWorld): The Agentic Workforce Revolution: How to Futureproof Your Governance Framework
Wednesday February 19, 2025 2:00pm - 2:25pm PST

[Virtual] PRO Session: Principles-Based Framework for AI Governance
Thursday February 20, 2025 9:30am - 9:55am PST
Mithun A. Sridharan, Think Insights, Founder

A principles-based framework for AI governance provides a compass to navigate the ethical and responsible development and use of Artificial Intelligence. Unlike rigid rulebooks, these frameworks establish core principles that guide decision-making throughout the AI lifecycle to address the unique challenges posed by different AI systems.

Several prominent examples of principles-based frameworks exist. The European Union's Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI, the Bletchley Declaration, SR 117, and ISO/IEC 42001 are a few frameworks that provide a comprehensive set of principles for organizations to manage AI throughout its lifecycle.

The principles-based approaches provide a strong foundation for navigating the complexities of AI development and implementation. As AI technology continues to evolve, these frameworks can be revisited and refined to address new challenges. By focusing on core ethical principles, they ensure that AI development remains responsible and human-centric.

[Virtual] PRO Session: Striking the Balance: Leveraging Human Intelligence with LLMs for Cost-Effective Annotations
Thursday February 20, 2025 9:30am - 9:55am PST

[Virtual] OPEN Session: Developing the Most Efficient LLM Inferencing
Thursday February 20, 2025 10:00am - 10:25am PST

[Virtual] OPEN Session: Reducing Developer Toil: Agentic AI-driven Testing
Thursday February 20, 2025 10:30am - 10:55am PST

[Virtual] PRO Session: Pattern Rights - An Ethical Framework for Generative AI Training Data
Thursday February 20, 2025 1:00pm - 1:25pm PST
Alison Cossette, Neo4j, Data Science Strategist, Advocate, Educator

As generative AI continues to push boundaries, creating novel content by learning from massive datasets, we are faced with complex issues around intellectual property, privacy, and the ethical use of data. Current systems of copyright, fair use, and data protection lack the scope to fully address the unique challenges posed by AI pattern recognition and generation.

This pivotal talk introduces the pioneering concept of "Pattern Rights" - a holistic ethical framework to inform the development and deployment of generative AI technologies. Pattern Rights serves as an umbrella construct, encompassing principles of copyright, fair use, training data transparency, privacy, data ownership, and accountability.

We will explore how Pattern Rights can ensure appropriate attribution and compensation when AI models learn from copyrighted works or personal data. It establishes guidelines around consent, anonymization, and ethical data sourcing practices.

As the AI industry is rapidly evolving, we urgently need governance to foster innovation while upholding rights and safeguarding against misuse. Pattern Rights provides a roadmap to navigate this uncharted territory responsibly and equitably.

[Virtual] OPEN Session: Give Your LLMs a Left Brain
Thursday February 20, 2025 1:30pm - 1:55pm PST
Stephen Chin, Neo4j, VP of Developer Relations

The human brain is divided into two hemispheres, each of which specializes in different types of tasks. Your right brain excels at imagination, intuition, art, rhythm, feelings, and dreams. Meanwhile, the left brain is more analytical and focused on logic, sequencing, linear thinking, and mathematics. Like a human brain, generative AI excels at certain tasks, especially those related to right-brain creative activities. However, the absence of relevant and up-to-date information produces confusing hallucinations that are not grounded in reality.
This presentation will explore how knowledge graphs built with factual and updated information can complement LLMs via retrieval augment generation (RAG) to produce more reliable results.

[Virtual] KEYNOTE (AI DevWorld): SambaNova Systems -- Composition of Experts: A Modular Approach to Scaling AI Models
Thursday February 20, 2025 2:30pm - 2:55pm PST
