Gayathri Jeganmohan, Microsoft, Software Engineer

As the IoT landscape continues to grow, there is a high demand of efficient, secure and scalable solutions. This session delves into the transformative potential of WebAssembly (Wasm), a cutting-edge technology that is reshaping IoT and extending its impact well beyond.

WebAssembly is a powerful and emerging technology stack that enables today's developer with cross platform compatibility, optimized performance and sandboxed security model. Imagine writing your code once and deploying it seamlessly across diverse devices—this is the game-changing capability that WebAssembly brings to the resource-constrained world of IoT.

The session will also explore compelling real-world applications, starting with WAMR (WebAssembly Micro Runtime) on lightweight devices that perform anomaly detection using AI models from camera feeds. Next, the session will examine the deployment of Wasmtime within Kubernetes clusters, leveraging WebAssembly modules to efficiently manage AI workloads in highly distributed and scalable environments. Additionally, the session will highlight some notable WebAssembly applications such as Google Photos, Visual Studio for Web, and browser-based Unity games, showcasing its versatility and potential across various industries. Finally, the session will provide some tools to get started with developing and debugging WebAssembly modules with some live demos.
