CANCELLED -- KEYNOTE (AI DevWorld): Stack Overflow -- Why Building Trust in AI Is Key to Healthy Knowledge Ecosystem
Wednesday February 12, 2025 9:30am - 9:55am PST

The internet and its business models are changing. For the last 16 years, Stack Overflow has been at the forefront, helping to shape the future of the web. In this time of disruption comes a necessary time to reflect, change, and break the norms of ‘this is how it's always been done.’ With the expansion of generative AI, many LLM providers are not allowing the world to operate as it has previously. Instead, a new paradigm has emerged: content created by thousands of creators across the Open Web is now being used to train models without respect or attribution for the original creator.

Consequently, in the current transformation, human-centered sources of knowledge are obscured. We face a world in which the old paradigms are no longer paramount, and their places in the world are redefined. Companies and organizations lucky enough to host these engines of knowledge production are at a decision point; how do they continue to monetize when the technological landscapes have changed? A change in strategy will allow these companies, AI tools, and the communities and data sets that power them to thrive.

CEO Prashanth Chandrasekar shares why in the GenAI era, trust in data is key to driving innovation, improving the developer experience, and building thriving knowledge communities.

Wednesday February 12, 2025 9:30am - 9:55am PST
Adrian Machado, Zuplo, Staff Engineer

The third-wave of API management is here. There are several trends that engineers and technical leaders need to know so they can choose the right tools and platforms for building their APIs. Trends include
1. Modernization around API gateways - The move towards GitOps over server configuration, and Edge over regional deployments
2. Centralization around OpenAPI and new tooling that's emerged
3. A strong focus on API DevX - what API-as-a-product really looks like in practice and the companies pushing the envelope. SDK generation, docs platforms, and more take center stage.

The talk will cover technology and tools engineering leaders should look to adopt and the benefits/drawbacks

KEYNOTE (Product): The Product Guild -- Busting the Biases That Block Innovation
Wednesday February 12, 2025 10:00am - 10:25am PST
Leslie Grandy, the University of Washington, Lead Executive in Residence

Innovation is the lifeblood of successful products, yet even the most talented teams can unknowingly fall prey to biases that stifle creativity and hinder progress. As product leaders, your decisions shape the future of your products and drive your organization’s growth. But are hidden biases holding your teams back from reaching their full potential?

In our fast-paced, competitive landscape, it’s not enough to generate ideas; we must create an environment where the best, most groundbreaking ideas can thrive. This presentation will reveal the common biases that subtly, yet powerfully, block innovation—from expert and confirmation biases that narrow our vision to status quo and fixation biases that keep us clinging to outdated methods.

You’ll learn actionable strategies to recognize and dismantle these biases, fostering a culture that embraces diverse perspectives, challenges assumptions, and encourages bold, creative thinking. By busting these biases, you’ll unlock your team’s full innovation potential, drive more impactful product development, and position your company as a leader in the market.

OPEN Session: Using AI to Solve Real Problems for Development Teams
Wednesday February 12, 2025 10:00am - 10:25am PST
Dennis Pilarinos, Unblocked, Founder & CEO

For all the claims about AI increasing developer productivity, why aren't developers seeing more of an impact?

What we’ve heard from thousands of developers is that writing code is not their main challenge. They’re stuck at Step #1 – trying to find the right context about how the codebase works and why.

Codebases are a compilation of thousands of decisions, discussions, and documents that live across tools like Confluence, Slack, Notion, Jira, Linear, GitHub, and more - accumulated over years if not decades. Whether a developer is onboarding to your team or trying to understand how a piece of legacy code works, they waste hours every day digging for the answers through all these systems.

Unblocked augments your code with context from the tools in your stack, giving your development team a platform for asking questions, and for discovering historical context about their code.

The impact here is profound: with Unblocked, developers can answer their own questions without interrupting their peers or having to wait for meetings. What’s more, they can find the entirety of the information they need wherever they're working.

If we want to see actual productivity benefits from AI, we need to use it where we spend the most time. The more we can empower developers with the context they need, the faster we can achieve our goals and the happier we can make our teams.

In the fast-paced world of DevOps, delivering secure, functional mobile apps quickly and efficiently is critical. This session is tailored for DevOps engineers and leaders looking to streamline mobile app development by incorporating code-less, secure app building, automated testing, and continuous monitoring into their CI/CD pipelines. Attendees will learn how to:
Integrate Secure Mobile App Builds Without Code or SDKs:

1. Automatically build critical security features such as encryption, fraud/malware/social engineering prevention, and threat detection directly into the mobile app, without writing any additional code or relying on third-party SDKs.
Automate Testing in CI/CD: Seamlessly integrate no-code security testing and scriptless functional testing into your CI/CD workflows. This ensures that each code push automatically triggers comprehensive testing, identifying any issues with secured apps before deployment—without requiring manual intervention.

2. Implement Continuous Threat Detection: Incorporate real-time threat detection for all your mobile apps. Then automate builds with protections against live attacks in your CI/CD pipeline. By closing the loop between security monitoring and app development, teams can ensure their apps are secure post-deployment and protected against evolving threats.

3. Optimize CI/CD Workflows for Faster Delivery: Implement a fully automated, end-to-end process that ensures every app build is secure, functional, and continuously monitored for potential threats. DevOps teams will learn how to accelerate their app delivery timelines without sacrificing security or performance, leveraging CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, and CircleCI, Bitrise and Azure DevOps.

This session will include a live demonstration showing how DevOps teams can integrate these capabilities into their existing CI/CD workflows, enabling faster, secure, and scalable mobile app delivery.

KEYNOTE: Auth0 -- Enabling the Era of AI Agents
Wednesday February 12, 2025 11:30am - 11:55am PST
Shiven Ramji, President, Customer Identity Cloud, Okta

Sam Altman predicted that 2025 would be the year agents join the workforce. And we are starting to see that almost every company is making ongoing, internal or external efforts to create apps with GenAI. We must ensure they remain secure as we see the rise of AI apps and agents that integrate with our applications and act on our behalf.
Authentication and security for GenAI apps are not optional. Startups and enterprises across industries are betting on agents to drive efficiency, innovation, and growth; it will be crucial to prioritize and adopt identity best practices to secure users, applications, and data.
Join Shiven Ramji, President, Customer Identity Cloud, Okta, as he shows developers how to implement authentication and authorization requirements for GenAI apps and agents. He will explain how to securely get agents to call APIs on users' behalf, implement secure “human in the loop” flows for background agents, and ensure and enable fine-grained access control when doing Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG).
You'll see how securing identity is the missing piece to making AI agents mainstream and learn how to solve it.

Wednesday February 12, 2025 11:30am - 11:55am PST
Kene Anoliefo, HEARD, Founder

Product discovery traditionally requires a PM working across a team of designers, engineers, and researchers to create and test new product concepts with users. But AI is rewriting these rules. Today, a single PM armed with AI tools can rapidly prototype and validate new product ideas on their own – compressing months of work into just a few days. Now, PMs can generate and explore more ideas with fewer resources, allowing their team to quickly get feedback on the most promising product directions with minimal time investment.
In this session, we'll explore how product managers can leverage no-code AI prototyping tools like Claude, Replit and Loveable to rapidly create functional web prototypes. Then, we’ll demonstrate how to test these prototypes with real customers using AI-powered user interviews, creating a seamless workflow from idea → test → validation.

KEYNOTE: DigitalOcean -- AI Democratization: Enabling Developers of All Sizes
Wednesday February 12, 2025 1:00pm - 1:25pm PST
Bratin Saha, DigitalOcean, Chief Product and Technology Officer

Artificial intelligence (AI) seems to be taking all industries by storm. Still, the sad reality is that so far, these changes are afforded to and created by large players who have the resources to develop AI technology. But if we are to unlock the full potential and promise of this technology, the future of AI development needs to be shaped by developers in companies of all sizes, even if they are resource-constrained. This session will explore how democratizing AI tools, platforms, and knowledge can accelerate innovation, bridge skill gaps, and empower the next generation of AI technology creators.

Technology tends to follow the path of democratization. From an infrastructure layer to a platform layer to finally the application layer, making the technology accessible to everyday users should be the natural progression. AI will soon move from the foundational models developed by companies like Anthropic and Open AI to applications that allow users to interact with unique and useful AI tools in their daily lives. This will be made possible by lowering barriers to entry through open-source frameworks, user-friendly APIs, and collaborative ecosystems so AI can become a tool for everyone, not just a privileged few.

Attendees will leave this talk with practical insights on how companies can ensure the efficient and equitable development of AI through the steps needed to enable developers with AI infrastructure, simplify AI platforms and empower developers with AI-driven applications.

PRO Session: Pushing the Boundary of What's Possible with Code AI
Wednesday February 12, 2025 1:00pm - 1:25pm PST
YK Sugi, Sourcegraph, Senior AI Developer Advocate

In this talk, we’ll walk through how we at Sourcegraph think about the boundary of what’s possible with Code AI. We’ll start with an example from OpenAI, setting the stage for how you can think about these boundaries. Then, I’ll dive into specific ways we’ve pushed these limits—whether through a new version of autocomplete or an agentic chat experience.

Finally, we’ll step back and explore how you can think about the boundaries of your own AI system, in any domain, and make the right decisions and execute on them to stay competitive. To wrap it all up, I’ll share something I’ve recently started looking into - an idea & a prototype that I find particularly exciting.

OPEN Session: How GenAI Helps Solve Data Consistency Problems with Cloud-Native Apps
Wednesday February 12, 2025 1:00pm - 1:25pm PST
Brijesh Deo, Oracle, Director, Software Development

Data consistency has been a longstanding challenge, dating back to the mainframe era, and transactions have traditionally been used to address these issues. However, with the rise of modern applications built on microservices architectures, ensuring data consistency has become even more complex. While AI adds further complexity to app development, it also offers significant potential to ease these challenges. New transaction patterns have emerged to tackle these modern issues. In this session, you will learn about these new patterns and the solutions available today to integrate these patterns into your applications. We will also explore in detail how some of these solutions are leveraging genAI to help developers avoid writing transaction management code or worry about associated infrastructure, making it extremely easy to adopt such transaction patterns.

OpenAPI Summit: Your Cheat Code for API Authorization
Wednesday February 12, 2025 1:00pm - 1:25pm PST
Omri Gazitt, Aserto, Co-founder & CEO

Congrats, your org is all-in on microservices! But now you have hundreds (or thousands!) of APIs. Some power your customer-facing apps. Others are platform services that your front-end services consume. Still others are back-end services used by internal tools.

And ALL of them need to be authorized.

Not to mention, you need to be able to answer questions like “which users are authorized to invoke this endpoint?” and “which endpoints can this user invoke?”

Having each API “do its own thing” makes it all but impossible to wrangle this complexity. You need a cross-cutting solution to apply authorization rules consistently - either in the API code or at the API Gateway.

Enter Aserto: an open source cloud-native authorization service that does this, and more.

This talk provides hands-on learning for how to go from an OpenAPI spec to a fine-grained authorization model, ready to authorize your users, in just a few minutes.

In a competitive landscape where businesses must evolve to meet customer demands, and sustain, the reality is up to 70% of strategic initiatives fail due to poor execution, unrealistic goals, or the inability to make timely strategic decisions (Harvard Business Review, 2020). Companies often embark on ambitious projects without clear, actionable roadmaps, leading to wasted resources, missed opportunities, and stalled growth. The disconnect between innovative ideas and actual results is often rooted in a failure to set clear, achievable objectives and align stakeholders across the organization.

This session will present data-driven insights and practical frameworks for crafting roadmaps that transform bold ideas into real results. To gain valuable outcomes, roadmaps must be designed with a focus on prioritizing high-impact initiatives, aligning them with measurable milestones, and ensuring adaptability to respond to evolving market conditions. This approach bridges the gap between aspiration and execution, ensuring that innovation translates into sustained success.

Drawing on research from McKinsey, which shows that companies that define and communicate clear strategies are 3.5 times more likely to outperform their peers (McKinsey & Company, 2021), we will outline the key steps to ensure strategic alignment, continuous feedback, and measurable outcomes. More details and actionable strategies will be discussed in the session, empowering leaders to move beyond lofty goals and drive meaningful, measurable change.

Kubernetes works great for stateless applications, but stateful workloads like databases or long-running jobs pose a challenge. These applications rely on persistent data and can’t afford interruptions, making Kubernetes’ “ephemeral” approach risky. Downtime can lead to data loss, inconsistencies, and system failures.

That’s where live migration comes in, allowing stateful workloads to move between nodes without disruption. At Cast AI, we’ve developed Container Live Migration to automatically consolidate these workloads, ensuring continuous uptime, reducing resource fragmentation, and cutting costs. Join us to see how we’re making Kubernetes work for stateful applications in a practical demo.

OPEN Session: Where Is the Love? Why Automated Regression Testing Isn’t Getting the Attention It Needs
Wednesday February 12, 2025 1:30pm - 1:55pm PST
Jens Wessling, Veracode, Chief Technology Officer

As software development continues to evolve at a rapid pace and new innovations bring a world of possibilities, one item is often left behind: automated regression testing. The truth is without it, organizations can forget about software quality, security, winning customers' trust or being agile.

Regression testing is an integral, non-negotiable part of the production software development process right from the very moment the first line of production code is written. Its impact goes beyond code correctness, influencing development velocity, reducing long-term maintenance costs and ensuring a smoother integration process during acquisitions. However, companies often scramble to retrofit regression testing into their legacy code, but in reality, less than 10% of these after-the-fact efforts ever pan out. It might be tempting to overlook the absence of solid regression testing in smaller companies, but here's the catch: the long-term costs of maintaining code without automated testing don't just stay put – they grow. It's not just a “nice to have” it’s a strategic investment to safeguard their current operations and for companies to position themselves for future growth, innovation and success.

In this Thought Leadership Session, Jens Wessling, CTO of Veracode, outlines the importance of automated regression testing, highlighting why both developers and the C-Suite should make it a priority from the outset and how to make it a core aspect of your team's ethos.

Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are two of the most important developments in tech of the last 10 years. While AI has grabbed the majority of headlines lately, APIs are the unsung heroes, the “connective tissue” that ensures seamless integration across our digital lives. But how will the more recent emergence of AI affect API security, and how do APIs affect the security of AI?
In this talk, we’ll explore these two hot topics that make our online worlds work. AI can be helpful to API security by allowing security teams to automate certain processes or make testing more efficient, but it can also be used to help malicious actors automate their attacks.

KEYNOTE (AI DevWorld): The Agentic Workforce Revolution: How to Futureproof Your Governance Framework
Wednesday February 12, 2025 2:00pm - 2:25pm PST
Manish Rai, Snaplogic, VP of Product Marketing

The rise of AI agents shows no sign of slowing down, with the market projected* to grow tenfold from $5 billion in 2024 to nearly $50 billion by 2030. By this time, generative AI will be table stakes, and business and IT leaders will instead be grappling with how to manage an entire workforce of AI agents carrying out a range of automated tasks.

In an AI-powered future, enterprises are like gardens with AI agents as gardeners, helping the landscapers maintain the estate. These agents are smart, self sufficient tools, and excel at specific tasks, but if the tool shed is disorganized they will be slowed down — or worse, use the wrong soil or seeds and cause irreparable damage, preventing the garden from blooming to its full potential. To avoid this, organizations must keep their tools in order.

In this session, Manish Rai will explore a range of considerations for enterprises as they implement and scale a team of AI agents to set themselves up for long-term success. It will encompass topics such as function management, and how to govern the tools AI agents will have access to — while maintaining guardrails. As use cases for AI agents expand to non-technical teams, Rai will also discuss key stakeholders for overseeing implementation to prevent shadow data. Finally, he will provide tips for organizations seeking to rework their overall data governance framework to meet the moment head on, and be prepared for a new agentic workforce.

PRO Session: Product Oriented Software Engineering (POSE): A Game-Changer for Product Managers and Product Leaders
Wednesday February 12, 2025 2:30pm - 2:55pm PST
Andrew Park, Edensoft Labs, Founder & CPO

Imagine if your engineering team could reduce your workload, take ownership of day-to-day development tasks, and free you to focus on strategy, vision, and delivering real value. That’s exactly what Product-Oriented Software Engineering (POSE) offers. Unlike approaches where a single software engineer takes on product responsibilities, POSE transforms all software engineers into Product Engineers who deeply understand both the product’s technical and strategic goals. This unique approach eliminates misalignment, streamlines your workload, and tackles one of the most pressing challenges for Product Managers: burnout.

As a Product Manager, you may find yourself buried under tactical responsibilities like writing user stories, maintaining backlogs, prioritizing tasks, resolving misalignments, and monitoring dependencies. POSE can help you shed these burdens. Many of these responsibilities either disappear altogether or are shifted to Product Engineers. Misalignment issues decrease significantly because Product Engineers internalize the product vision and align their work accordingly, reducing the need for constant oversight. Similarly, operational responsibilities like refining requirements, managing day-to-day execution, and providing Level-of-Effort (LOE) estimates are taken on by Product Engineers, freeing you to focus on the strategic aspects of your role.

Teresa Torres’ vision of the “Product Trio” (Product Manager, Designer, and Engineer) is a powerful framework for collaboration that ensures alignment and effective communication. POSE makes this vision highly attainable because a Product Engineer (designated as a Flex Engineer) has a #1 priority responsibility to be available for collaboration at a moment’s notice. While not exclusively dedicated to collaboration, this prioritization effectively mimics dedicated availability, enabling seamless support for product discovery, design discussions, LOE estimates, and execution planning. This minimizes delays, reduces friction, and allows the Product Trio to work together efficiently toward shared goals.

How POSE Can Help You as a Product Manager:
   •       Eliminates some responsibilities altogether: Misalignment issues, repetitive micromanagement, and redundant oversight diminish as Product Engineers fully align with the product vision and execute autonomously.
   •       Shifts operational responsibilities: Tasks like refining requirements, tracking progress, resolving technical dependencies, and providing LOE estimates move to Product Engineers, reducing your cognitive load.
   •       Frees time for strategy: With fewer tactical demands, you can focus on vision-setting, market analysis, and high-impact decision-making.
   •       Improves collaboration: A shared understanding of the product vision ensures smooth communication and alignment across teams.

This approach isn’t theoretical—it’s a proven methodology that has been implemented and refined over nearly two decades at G3 Technologies. POSE can help you, as a Product Manager, lead large, complex efforts with less friction, fewer misalignments, and greater success. It offers a clear path to reducing burnout and enhancing your focus on strategic leadership, enabling you to thrive in your role.

Join this session to learn how POSE can transform your role as a Product Manager by lightening your workload, amplifying your strategic impact, and giving you the space to thrive. Let’s unlock the full potential of your teams and deliver better products—together.

PRO Session: Decoding the Early Stage Product Strategy: Taking a Product from MVP to Release 1.0
Wednesday February 12, 2025 3:30pm - 3:55pm PST
Amala Rangnekar, Workday Search, Product Manager

With the recent advent in cutting-edge technologies that were unheard of before, companies have started aggressively investing in the development of innovative products. However, products in a nascent stage can be intimidating to build, especially if they belong to a specialised domain. Products typically follow the lifecycle phases of introduction, growth, maturity and decline. However, the introductory phase is the most crucial one and can have long-lasting effects on the upcoming stages. In my session, I will cover best practices for product leaders who are building such products from scratch. This includes setting a product vision and strategy based on the market landscape when you have no existing roadmap and 0 customers. I will also share personal experiences on how I came up with the appropriate product phases of early stage, limited availability and general availability by observing the use-cases and stakeholders as well as customer patterns and feedback from existing competition. Lastly, I will explain how effective team processes, data analysis and a strong business acumen(marketing, positioning and product messaging) are a PM’s best friend to help successfully deploy early stage products.
